The Host is Right

Conservative* actor/writer Drew Carey to be new “Price is Right” host

I guess this is why Carey was booked to be on Letterman tonight. Carey is also a former Marine who has performed for American forces in Iraq.

I wasn’t a fan of his recent TV outing, the improv show “Whose Line is it Anyway?” but I love “The Drew Carey Show,” which ran from 1995 to 2004. Sadly, the syndicated reruns do not seem to be airing in the Toronto area at the moment.

*Carey has also described himself as a libertarian, which he explains is a conservative who still gets high, or words to that effect (I am going from memory).

Sweet, lol.

I had no idea he was a conservative!

Drew's book, "Dirty Jokes and Beer", is a riot. I'll tell you what, though -- I would actually fear for the life of former Cleveland Browns owner Art Modell if Drew saw him in person. I swear that Carey will make good on his threat to personally pee on the grave of Modell, who moved Drew's beloved football team out of Cleveland, when Modell finally dies.

He is a conservative/libertarian along the same lines as P.J. O'Rourke, who refers to himself as a, "pants down Republican". His rips on the Hard Rock Cafe's, "Save The Planet" theme are priceless. I guess you save the planet, Drew mused, by gambling at their casino, buying their drinks, and leering at the scantily clad waitresses inside. I would imagine he might have similar rips on the celebrities who travelled in private jets and hooked up 100,000 watt speakers to tell us how to save the planet at "Live Earth".

Much like Jerry Springer has this smirk that says, "I can't believe they pay me to do this", Drew will also be well aware of just how campy his game show gig is. He'll play it up for all it is worth, and make it a much more entertaining show overall, especially when cracking jokes that go right over the heads of the trailer trash contestants who come running down the aisles.
